We're reading another great history book from the 'Dive into the Time of ' series with our young monsters, and this book is called En toch wil ik tekenen! (And Yet I Want to Draw!) We travel back to the year 1619, to the time when the main character, Judith, was alive. The book is written by Dutch author Anneke Scholtens and beautifully illustrated by also Dutch illustrator Saskia Halfmouw.
It's so illuminating to see the children's clothes from that era depicted so accurately! For girls, it's a long skirt with a jacket with a collar and a little bonnet on their heads. It's wonderful to show such a precise image of those times to children from today.
A lot of care has gone into these book series. The front cover provides a brief overview of important information about what life was like back then. At the back, the author writes a short piece about her motivation for writing this book. The illustrator also explains how working on this book went and what it entailed.
Finally, at the very back are tips for you, should you want to give a presentation in class about this book. On the back cover, you'll find a timeline alongside the synopsis.
