Chocolate Piranha Plants!

Shopping list for 12 cupcakes:
150g self-raising flour
30g cocoa powder
175g caster sugar
175g softened butter
3 large free-range organic eggs
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon milk

We're still baking for a Super Mario children's birthday party, when a little monster pointed out that Piranha Plants are a must. So, that means baking more cupcakes, chocolate this time. You can never have too many cupcakes at a children's party; you don't know where they disappear to, so quickly. And these cupcakes are extra delicious with chocolate buttercream and fondant icing.

How to make Piranha Plant chocolate cupcakes

Beat the butter and sugaer until creamy.

Beat the eggs in one by one.

Then beat the vanilla into the mixture..

Add the sugar, cocoa and choclate.

Preheat the oven to 170°C and place the paper cases into the baking tin(s)

Loosen the butter cream with some milk.

Fold the milk lightly into the batter..

Spoon the batter into the paper cases.

Bake the cupcakes for 20-25 minuten, let briefly cool in the tin.

Let the cupcakes cool completely on a wire rack.

Make the chocolate buttercream while the cupcakes are cooling, and set it aside for now

Then cut out the fondant icing while the chocolate flavoured buttercream has time to blend in

 
 

Knead the fondant icing until soft.

Cut leaves out of fondant.

Cut out red circles.

Cut triangles out of white fondant.

Cut out a V with rounded off corners.

Also cut teeth out of white fondant icing.

Finally cout out white dots.

Stick the teeth into the mouths with a drop of water.

Stick the mouths onto the red cicles.

Decorate the red circles with the white dots.

Allow the Piranha Plant to dry for a little while.

Now fetch the chocolate buttercream and stir it briefly but vigorously

Spoon the chocolate buttercream into a large piping bag.

Pipe buttercream rosettes on the cupcakes and press the fondant on top.
