In De vliegende jongen (The Flying Boy), a wonderful story is told about a turbulent time in Dutch history. But it focuses primarily on a very special invention which we now take for granted: electricity. We make full use of it every day without stopping for even a second to think about how special it actually is. That is how ordinary it is to us.

But in 1795, the time in which Sybren lived, electricity wasn't so ordinary. People all had their own thoughts about it, which went from magic to science. That makes the book original, adventurous and funny, while you learn from it. At the back of the book, there is a short conversation with the author and illustrator, as well as tips for giving a presentation about it.

Our little monsters have read the entire book series with great pleasure; this makes practicing reading fun. They think this volume is one of the most fun, with Sybren living in Teylers Museum in Haarlem, his meeting with the clever Jeltje, and the fairground boss with his nasty son and his fantastic invention, with which he wants to become filthy rich. A very fun book!

3 splashing stars for The Flying Boy, from our young readers and their older listeners!
