150g melted butter
200ml buttermilk
3 organic, free-range eggs
250g self-raising flour
75g cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
200g light brown caster sugar
extra butter for greasing
chocolate buttercream
sprinkles and toadstools
fresh fruit
Today we're baking a delicious chocolate Christmas cake with creamy chocolate buttercream. We bought some sweet little sugar mushrooms for decoration. As our readers know, mushrooms are a favorite of the little monsters, as is chocolate cake :)) So, they're a must-have for our cake this Christmas!
How to make a simple chocolate Christmas Cake with chocolate buttercream
Melt the butter slowly, om low heat.
Add the flour, cocoa, baking powder and sugar to a bowl.
Stir it together until all is well combined.
Add the buttermilk, eggs and butter to a second bowl.
Add the butter mixture to the flour mixture.
Stir it all together until you have a smooth batter.
Grease the bspring form with waxed paper on the bottom.
Pour the batter into the baking tin.
Tap with the mold on your work space.
Bake the cake for +/- 35 minutes.*
Let the cake cool in the tin for 10 minutes.
*Insert a wooden skewer into the center of the cake, if the skewer comes out clean the cake is cooked
How to make the chocolate buttercream
Transfer the cake to a wire rack.
Meanwhile make chocolate buttercream.
Spread the butter cream all over the cake
Spoon the remaining cream in a piping bag and pipe rosettes on top.
Decorate the chocolate cake with sprinkles, toad stools and fruit.
