This year we had no trouble at all choosing two books from the Top 10 Picture Books for the National Reading Days of 2026. This book immediately stood out for us: Ludas and Bontje by Dutch author Jan Paul Schutten and with illustrations by Sanne te Loo.
This picture book is still a surprise for the little monsters, but what would they think? We have read the book and were very much taken with the unusual friendship between the two main characters and how the story turned out. We are big fans of the books by Jan Paul Schutten.
The wonderful pictures in the book were also a huge magnet to us, just the cover had us right away. We love the work of Sanne te Loo very much as well. So we are happy to let you know the little monsters love the book. The story has it all, it is funny, unusual and a little bit sad with an unexpected happy ending, supported by beautiful pictures. What more do you want?
