What do you need?
To make salt dough
125g salt
125ml warm water
250g all-purpose flour
For the starfish
A lid of a jar
A small knife
A wooden skewer
A piece of string
The little monsters love beachcombing; we haven't arrived at the beach yet and they start searching already. Everything they find is kept neatly in special little boxes. In one such special box is a tiny starfish, that had washed up dead on the beach. That is a very special treasure for the little monsters, which they love very much. Today we are making starfish ourselves, big ones that don't come from the sea but are beautiful nonetheless...
Put the salt in a large bowl and add the warm water.
Dissolve the salt in the warm water while stirring.
Add the flour to the salty water mixture.
Knead the mixture firmly by hand.
Until you have a smooth, soft dough.
Break off a piece and flatten it.
Flatten it until the lid fits on top.
Cut around the lid with a sharp knife a circle out of the dough
Press this figure in the dough using the wooden skewer.
Cut the dough points out of the circle.
Cut off 2 little corners of each end.
Shape your starfish just like a real one looks.
Cut vertical lines into the protrusions.
Poke on both sides of the lines little holes.
Then your Starfish is ready!
You have now made a beautiful starfish and of course you want to keep it. That is why you are going to bake it; we made six, so we are baking six ;)))
Preheat the oven to 100°C
Do you want to hang your starfish? Then poke a hole on top.
Now be patient! Bake your Starfish for 2 hours.
Allow the starfish(es) to cool on a wire rack.
Keep the remaining salt dough in a sealable jar.
Thread and tie a string through your starfish.
Find a nice place for your starfish!
