Vrolijk Pasen!

Today we're reading "Happy Easter!", a cozy book about celebrating (Palm) Easter, written by Dutch author Jaques Vriens. Our original book is from 2002, and back then it was already its thirteenth edition :)) The first edition was published in 1989. The main characters Mieke from back then is now called Lieke, and little Wouter is now called Sam, but otherwise, the story is much the same.

The original illustrations by Dutch illustreator Dagmar Stam are lovely, so cozy and typically Dutch. The children, Mieke and little Wouter, are preschoolers, so cute. But the newly published book is beautifully sturdy, the story is still full of Dutch coziness, and Marja Meijer's illustrations are also truly lovely and very cozy.

This book might be a bit more contemporary for our little ones, so now we read the new version to them. But our old book will stay on our bookshelf! Still a beloved book with a beautiful glimpse into times that have gone by, for the adult readers!
